Black Beck, Race Grove, The Green

Black Beck, Race Grove, The Green

SPECIES AND GUIDANCE… Sea Trout and occasional Salmon

The Black beck here is referred to as Matty Hole and Green Beck. The fishing consists of only a single pool below a waterfall situated at the top of the beat. This water is best described as a fell beck with a single 6 feet rocky ledged pool. During summer months and autumn floods a few fish enter the system and have to negotiate the waterfall. Whilst they rest in the pool they may be tempted by a trotted bait. The bank is lined with large trees.

ACCESS AND PARKING…

Follow the A5093 from Thwaites or Millom and turn off into the village called The Green, cross the road bridge. Take the first left and after 100 metres the race grove estate is on the left. Park carefully so as not to cause obstruction to other users. Walk into the estate and follow the footpath which extends from the road. The footpath arrives on the river bank at the bottom limit if the fishing. Please pass through the gate and follow the footpath along the foot of the gardens. All gates must be kept closed. Please take care on the steep river bank.
